Foreigners welcome!

TILBURG – From March, foreigners can buy cannabis again for six months in the coffee shops in Tilburg. This is possible because the municipality does not uphold the so-called resident criterion (i-criterion: you may only buy in a coffee shop if you are resident in the Netherlands).

The measure has been coordinated with the police and the judicial authorities,  says the Mayor Theo Weterings. For half a year he wants to see what the consequences are of admitting foreigners to the coffeeshops.

In case of positive experiences, the mayor announces that he will relinquish the i-criterion forever.

Weed waiver
Incidentally, it is not the first trial in Tilburg. In a weekend in September 2017, during a concert by Ayreon in pop stage 013 and at the festivals Woo Hah and Roadburn, the city already enjoyed a’ rock exemption’ for foreign visitors. These experiments were successful and were intended to prevent foreign music lovers from searching for cannabis via illegal street trading.
