Anyone who has ever consumed cannabis has heard of a bong. This way is very popular especially abroad because you get very high in one hit. It’s easy to use that is what makes a bong attractive. They are realy quick to smoke because you just have to fill the bowl and heat it. The only downside is that you need water for the bong to function, so you have to take this into account when you want to take it with you.
What's a bong?
You can compare a bong with a hookah. Before you breathe in the smoke, it passes through a liquid that cools the smoke and it hurts your throat less. A bong often has a straight tube with a chamber at the bottom for water. A tube often sticks out from the bong, also known as a downstem. On top of the downstem is the bowl where you can put your cannabis. You also have bongs that are equipped with an air channel, a carbhole, which ensures that the smoke comes out of your bong much more effectively.
What kind of bong do you choose?
Choosing a bong can be difficult. You have bongs in different types, materials, shapes, sizes and prices. Most bongs are made of glass, silicone or acrylic. These are known for being easy to maintain. The final choice for the material of the bong depends on how often and where you want to use the bong. And of course personal preference.
Also consider the size of the bong. A larger bong has a larger chamber, which provides a different experience than a small compact bong. The larger the room, the cooler and deeper the inhalations become.

How do you use a bong?
- To start, fill your bong with water. Make sure that the downstem is 3 to 7 cm under water.
- Grind your cannabis, place a screen in the bowl and fill the bowl loosley with the grinded cannabis.
- When you have a carbhole in your bong, place your thumb over it.
- Place your mouth over the opening of the tube, hold a flame near the bowl and take a gentle puff to fill the chamber with smoke.
- When there’s enough smoke in the chamber, remove your finger from the carbhole or remove the downstem from the bong and inhale the smoke.
Maintenance
If you clean and maintain your bong properly, the smoke will continue to taste good and your bong can last for years. Failure to do so can also be harmful to your health. The tar and dirt that remains on the bong is full of bacteria and sometimes even fungi. Clean your bong after use with some alcohol wipes and cotton swabs to easily remove the dirt. For the harder dirt you have various tools with which you can get rid of the annoying leftovers.
